There are 4 lists of OHCHR fellowships programs that anyone interested can apply to join. All of these 4 fellowships are aimed at strengthening the capacity
of persons or groups human rights work. These 4 fellowships are as follows:
1. The OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship.
2. The OHCHR Minorities Fellowship Program.
3. The OHCHR Human Rights LDC.
4. The OHCHR Fellowship for National Human Rights Institutions.
1. The OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program
The Indigenous Fellowship Program started as far back as early in 1997 as an initiative of OHCHR for the indigenous people.
The primary objective of this fellowship is to empower indigenous people and
their communities, strengthening their human rights awareness and access to the United Nations human rights system and modalities, and framework.
The OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program was formed to equip the indigenous women and men with the opportunity to gain
knowledge of international human rights in general and indigenous rights in particular, in
This mechanism helps the people and their communities to better be protected while also promoting indigenous people’s rights.
This fellowship will be training fellows on important topics when the fellowship is concluded the fellows should be capable of replicating this training within people of their
communities and organizations on international human rights in general and indigenous peoples’ rights in particular, and also be able to disseminate the information and knowledge gained during their fellowship programs.
This fellowship Program will benefit the individuals, fellows and groups and for their organizations, but most importantly for their communities.
The OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Programme exists in four languages: English, French, Russian and Spanish. Every year fellows are admitted into these four categories under the The OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program.
1. The Geneva-based Program (in English);
2. The Deusto-based Program (in Spanish);
3. The Dijon-based Program (in French); and
4 The Moscow-based Program (in Russian).
Here are more details of these four fellowship categories under the indigenous fellowship program.
The Geneva-based Program by OHCHR in Geneva. This category starts in May of each year and the duration for this category of the indigenous fellowship would likely last for up to four months, this category intensively focused on human rights mechanisms and institutions. This category is usually very interactive on various topics. There would be assignments for individual fellows and groups.
The Deusto Program, is another category that takes place in Spain, it is a joint initiative of the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain, and OHCHR. This category also takes the duration of four months. This category would consist of two parts: the first part is held at the University of Deusto and the second part is at OHCHR in Geneva. This category has a similar structure to the Geneva-based Program, while also trying to encourage an exchange between the fellows and the other organizations involved, such as Basque NGOs and the Basque Government.
The third category is the Dijon Program that takes place in France, this category is a joint initiative of the University of Bourgogne in Dijon, France, and OHCHR, this category is designed for indigenous people in France who have French as their first or second language. The duration of this category is a total of 10 weeks which would be shared as follows: 4 weeks at the University in Dijon, then another 4 weeks at OHCHR in Geneva and finally 2 weeks at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris.
The last category is the Moscow Program. This category is a joint initiative of the Russian Association of Indigenous
Peoples of the North (RAIPON) in Moscow and OHCHR. The this category will be a total of 8 weeks shared as follows, four weeks of training with RAIPON, the OHCHR Moscow Office and other United Nations
offices in Moscow, and another four weeks at OHCHR in Geneva.

Eligibility Requirements for The OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program.
To be eligible for this particular part fellowship, applicants must note these eligibility requirements and consider them before applying as ineligible applications may not be reviewed. Here are the requirements for application and participation.
1 Applicants who are applying for this fellowship must be members of an indigenous people or group.
2.The applicants to this fellowship must have the support of their communities, that is to be accepted for this fellowship, an applicant should be supported by his or her indigenous peoples or organizations
3 Applicants must meet the age requirement for this fellowship which is that applicants should be from the age of 25 and 35 years old at the time of application.
4 Applicants to these fellowships should have an education qualification. The applicants must have obtained of formal education is however the formal education may disqualify an applicant provided such applicants are indigenous peoples
4 Applicants to this fellowship must have willingness and demonstrate desire to spread the knowledge gained in the fellowship by way of creating human rights awareness and organising training for the indigenous persons.

6 Applicants to this fellowship must have and show an excellent moral understanding.
7 Applicants to this fellowship must have a good understanding of the language in which the Fellowship Program will be taken.
2 The OHCHR Minorities Fellowship Program
The OHCHR Minorities Fellowship Program is designed for young persons of national or ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities,
This particular fellowship program presents fellows with a great opportunity to gain knowledge of international human rights in general and minority rights in particular.
At the conclusion of the OHCHR Minorities Fellowship Program cohort the fellows will have gain immeasurable knowledge of the United Nations human rights and the organisation’s mechanisms as they relate to issues of relevance to minorities. 1 Interested candidates who is applying to be part of this fellowship shall be a national, ethnic, religious or linguistic minority;

(LDCs) of Africa and Asia, North America, South America, Europe and Austria, The OHCHR Human Rights LDC Fellowship Program is a joint program of the OHCHR and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
The core purpose the OHCHR Human Rights LDC Fellowship Program is to initiate and promote the awareness of human rights to the least developed countries fellows and training these on the understanding of their specific countries human rights issues at the international level while also giving a direct insight into the work of the United Nations and OHCHR.
The OHCHR Human Rights LDC Fellowship Program will as well provide OHCHR and the United Nations human rights mechanisms and also provide international assistance and contribution to outstanding students or graduates from these least developed countries.

The OHCHR fellowship program for national human rights Institutions staff is organised and implemented by the National Institutions Unit of the OHCHR. 3.Applicants who have worked on NHRI related issues at the national, regional level are an added advantage.
4.Applicants to this fellowship must have a recommendation letter from their various NHRIs.
5.Applicants to this fellowship shall demonstrate willingness to replicate the knowledge gained in the fellowship on follow staff at their NHRI upon completion and returning of the fellows.
6.Applicants to this fellowship must be fluent in English language.

The Training and workshops part of the OHCHR fellowship is designed to give civil society players the platforms to be trained on specific human rights activities and the strengthening of human rights engagement.
There are types or parts of this training and workshops. They are training and workshops on right treaty and local workshops and training for specific countries.
The first category, the training and workshop on right treaty is designed to train civil society players and aid them to build their capacity and support them to engage with treaty bodies.
The second part is a training and workshops organised for active nationalist human rights players in their own various countries. This training is designed to strengthen their capacities in contributing to the right treaties. The participants and the representatives of the OHCHR, NHRI other NGOs engage to build and encourage human rights works and also support in the implementation of the human rights treaties
