IHE Delft Partnership Programme Scholarship 2026 and Steps to Apply

The IHE Delft Institute for Water Education Water and Development Partnership Programme, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is offering a limited number of scholarships aimed at strengthening capacity and building a strong network of water professionals across its focus regions and countries.

Both full and partial scholarships are available for qualified applicants pursuing the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development.

Scholarship Benefits

The full scholarship covers:

Full tuition fees for the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development

Health insurance

International travel expenses

Monthly allowance of €1,220 for accommodation and living expenses throughout the study period

Applicants who can secure partial funding from other sources such as employers, personal funds, or external scholarships are also encouraged to apply. Eligible candidates with partial sponsorship may request additional financial support to complement their funding package.

Research and Participation Requirements

Recipients of the scholarship are expected to conduct their MSc research within their home country or region in collaboration with projects supported by the programme.

In addition, students are required to actively participate in seminars and learning network activities organized by the programme. These engagements are designed to strengthen regional capacities, expand professional networks within the water sector, and promote knowledge development relevant to participating countries.

Eligible Countries

Nationals from the following countries are eligible to apply:

Belize, Cabo Verde, Comoros, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Fiji, Grenada, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Kiribati, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Federated States of Micronesia, Montserrat, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Samoa, Sao Tome & Principe, Solomon Islands, Suriname, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:

Obtain academic admission into the regular or research variant of the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development

Be living and/or working in one of the eligible countries

Agree to conduct MSc research in their country or region in connection with one of the programme-supported projects

Participate actively in seminars organized for the programme’s learning networks

Confirm willingness to return to their country of origin or another programme priority country after graduation

Employer Recommendation Letter Requirements

One of the two recommendation letters submitted during the admission process must come from the applicant’s current employer and should:

Be written on official letterhead

Be signed and dated

Explain how the applicant’s new knowledge and skills will benefit the organization

Confirm that the applicant will return to the organization after completing the MSc programme at IHE Delft

Mention any project(s) funded by the Water and Development Partnership Programme in which the organization is involved, if applicable

Only applicants whose employer recommendation letter meets these conditions will be considered for the WDPP scholarship selection.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on the following:

Strong preference for female candidates

Convincing motivation demonstrated through five motivation questions in the online application

Strong academic performance

Relevant professional work experience

Where candidates are equally qualified, preference may be given to those who can secure co-funding from other sources.

Application Process

Applicants are not required to submit a separate scholarship application form.

Students from eligible countries who meet all requirements will automatically be considered for the scholarship after:

1. Applying for admission to the MSc programme

2. Receiving their academic admission letter

Due to the limited number of available scholarships, candidates are encouraged to also apply for other funding opportunities, including partial scholarships. Applicants eligible for the Rabbani Scholarship are also advised to apply.

Prospective students should apply for admission as early as possible and ensure they meet the English language requirements in good time.

English Language Requirement

Applicants who fail to submit satisfactory English test results before 1 June 2026 will not be considered eligible for the scholarship.

However, applicants from the following countries are exempt from submitting an English language test:

Belize

Guyana

Jamaica

Saint Vincent & the Grenadines
