This is the list of Japan Scholarships for African Scholars. I will explain to you how to successful apply, the requirements and the documents need to submit applications

If you are from any country in Africa and you want to study in Japan, here is the big opportunity for you to learn about the list of fully funded scholarships programs that African students should apply when they are open for application. Japan is one of the best countries in the world to study owing to its world class education system, excellent and safe environment, friendly locals and good study environment.

I have carefully researched a number of scholarship opportunities in Japan that African scholars are qualified for, based on the country of eligibility. However, these 7 scholarships here can be very competitive because of their natures, most of the scholarships accept African students and students from other countries. As a result there are a lot of applicants from brilliant students yearly.

Most of these scholarships accept students for Master’s degree programs and some scholarships may require you to first apply and be accepted by an institution in Japan before you can apply for scholarships via your student’s profile. This can be part of your admission which students will automatically be awarded.

 

To be able to get automatically awarded scholarships Applicants must provide the necessary information and documents for the scholarships when applying to the master’s degree program in the schools that qualify students for automatic scholarships award.

The Japan Foundation for UNU (jfUNU) Scholarship

The UNU Rector’s Scholarship

The Resona Bank Scholarship

The Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP).

I will explain each of these scholarships including application processes so that you can apply for any one of them if you are interested in studying in Japan.

The Japan Foundation for UNU (jfUNU) Scholarship program.

The jfUNU scholarship is on my top list because this one of my most recommended scholarship opportunities that can make your dream of studying in japan a reality provides, this scholarship provides a monthly students stipends for for successful applicants this stipend is up to JPY 120,000 to support students studies and living expenses in Japan. This is paid for a maximum period of 24 months. In addition to these stipends, student tuition fees are waived for the students who are successful in their applications.

The Eligibility Requirements for the Japan Foundation for UNU (jfUNU) Scholarship program.

Students who are interested in the Japan Foundation for UNU (jfUNU) Scholarship program must take notes of the following and meet the requirements as I listed here according to the scholarship portal.

The students who want to apply must be students from the countries that are included in the latest released OECD DAC list of ODA recipients. Therefore check your country first before you start your application and students must also demonstrate a need for financial assistance for academic pursuit.

Note that a student who wants to apply but who are currently living in Japan under a working visa are not eligible to apply for this Japan Foundation for UNU (jfUNU) Scholarship program.

Students who want to apply but who already have enrolled in other postgraduate degree programs in Japan or elsewhere are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. This requirement is also applicable to this includes those who have already obtained a master’s degree at an institution other than UNU-IAS

This scholarship is strictly for students who need academic assistance, if you are already being assisted, it means you don’t need academic assistance as you are currently being offered one therefore applicants must not be recipients of other scholarships in Japan or elsewhere

Note that students who are successful in their applications shall submit an appreciation letter upon graduation to the donors with reflections on their future plans.

Students who are successful in their applications shall agree to foster collaboration with jfUNU through participating in jfUNU activities, events and other opportunities offered to the student body.

Application Steps for the Japan Foundation for UNU (jfUNU) Scholarship program.

To apply for the Japan Foundation for UNU (jfUNU) Scholarship program you should follow strictly the following instructions below. Note applying correctly could affect your chances of securing the scholarship offer. Therefore follow this procedure below.

If you are a candidate applying for this scholarship, you must write a short essay, a motivation letter centred on the candidate’s learning and experiences at UNU, this shall be submitted to the donor organization.

Get all your other documents ready including your transcript for your bachelor’s degree studies, your curriculum vitae, your reference or recommendations letter whichever name you see on your application portal. Application for scholarship is free. Applicants are not required to pay any fees.

Proceed to the application portal to fill your application form and upload all your documents, make sure to upload the documents to the right folders and check your information and make sure they are correct before your final submission.

The UNU Rector’s Scholarship

The next on my list is the UNU Rector’s Scholarship. This UNU Rector’s Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship opportunity that covers the full tuition fees for students and also provides a monthly stipend up to 130,000, however, take not that this stipend amount can be changed, this stipends takes care of students living expenses for a maximum of 24 months for the duration of the masters program.

This scholarship also offers successful students with USD 2,500 to take care of their travel costs to and from Japan, this scholarship also provides a research allowance. This scholarship also offers other support for costs such as visa handling fees.

Eligibility Requirements for the UNU Rector’s Scholarship

To successfully apply for the UNU Rector’s Scholarship the interested students must meet the following requirements below.

First the interested students must be students from the countries included in the latest released OECD DAC list of ODA recipients and who must demonstrate a need for financial assistance

Students must have a demonstrated interest in the broader work of the United Nations

Students who are currently living in Japan on a working visa are not eligible for the scholarship

Students who are already enrolled in other postgraduate degree programmes are not eligible to apply for this scholarship, note that this includes those who have already obtained a master’s degree at an institution other than UNU-IAS

Students must not be recipients of other scholarships concurrently. Application is only open to students who need academic financial assistance

The application process for the UNU Rector’s Scholarship

Students who are interested in this scholarship must provide all the required documents which would include your transcript, motivation letter, recommendation letters and your curriculum vitae. After that, proceed to submit your scholarship application by filling all the required fields in the application portal. Upload your documents and select the final submission.

Note the following below

Successful applicants shall be required to write a 400-word paper each year of their scholarship program describing their learning and experiences at UNU and submit the same to the scholarship donor. Successful students are encouraged to reflect on their future plans.

Applicants shall agree to foster collaboration with UNU through participating in activities, events and other opportunities, and promoting UNU activities amongst the student body.

Additionally applicants shall agree to uphold the core values of the United Nations, such as integrity and respect for diversity.

The Resona Bank Scholarship

This is my third on the list, the Resona Bank scholarship. This scholarship opportunity is a fully funded scholarship opportunity that covers the full tuition fees of students and also provides a monthly stipend of up to JPY 130,000, note that this amount is subject to change. This scholarship also offers successful students the part of the stipend to cover their living expenses for a maximum of 24 months which is their expected studies duration.

Successful students also get their travel costs to and from Japan covered with an additional fund of up to JPY 260,000. Students shall bear the other costs such as visa handling fees and health/accident insurance

Eligibility Requirements for the Resona Bank Scholarship

To successfully apply for the Resona Bank Scholarships, interested students must meet these following following requirements

The students must be persons from the countries included in the latest released OECD DAC list of ODA recipients and must be students who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance.

Students applicants must be students who have demonstrated interest in the broader work of the United Nations

A student applicant must not be currently living in Japan at the time of his or her application. Students who are currently living in Japan on a working visa are not eligible for the scholarship

Applicant must not be currently receiving other academic assistance

Students who are already enrolled in other postgraduate degree programmes are not eligible, this includes students who have already obtained a master’s degree at an institution other than UNU-IAS

This scholarship is strictly for students who need academic financial assistance.

The Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP)

My fourth on the is this Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP), it’s one of the most sought after scholarship program and has a limited number of scholarships offered for the MSc yearly for students in Sustainability programme under the Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP).

The scholarship award and it’s program is based on application selection results. This scholarship is offered to students who are already taking courses on sustainability development, there applicants must have been accepted for enrolment in the UNU-IAS Master of Science in Sustainability programme before such application can be considered as candidates for ADB–JSP.

The Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program is a fully funded scholarship that covers the students full tuition fees for the duration of students programs. Successful applicants are also provided with allowances to cover the following housing allowance, thesis research allowance, medical and accident insurance, books and instrumental allowance.

Students also receive a monthly subsistence allowance including housing allowance for one person for the academic year is JPY 147,000 note that the allowances are subject to change. Successful students also get economy class airfare and will also be provided for the most direct route between the scholar’s home country and Tokyo Narita International Airport.

Eligibility Requirements for the Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program

Students who are interested and want to send in their applications for this scholarship must meet the following requirements below

Students must be nationals of an ADB borrowing member countries and Japanese ODA scholarship-eligible countries.

Students must not hold dual citizenship of any developed country.

Students applying for this scholarship must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with superior academic record.

Students who are applying for this scholarship must have at least two years of full-time professional work experience which must have been acquired after the completion of a university bachelor’s degree at the time of scholarship application

Students applying for this scholarship must not be more than 35 years old at the time of the scholarship application, this may be waived in exceptional cases with the expressed endorsement of the Government of Japan. It’s generally better to be less than 35 years at the time you are sending your application.

Students applicants must be in good health

Applicants to this scholarship must demonstrate and show willingness to return to and work in their home country for at least two years after the completion of studies at UNU-IAS in order to contribute to the country’s development.

Applicants at the time of application for this scholarship must not be an executive director, alternate director, management, staff or consultant of ADB, or a close relative of the aforementioned by blood or adoption. The term close relative includes spouse, mother, stepmother, father, stepfather, sister, stepsister, brother, stepbrother, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew.

Applicants must not be a staff of ADB–Japan Scholarship Program Designated Institutions

Applicants must not be living or working in a country other than their home country at the time of application.

Applicants must not be already enrolled in a graduate degree program.

Applicants to this scholarship must note and submit these following documents, these documents are in addition to the application documents required by UNU-IAS when they are sending their application. The documents to submit when requested for by the Admissions Office are the following.

The Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program Information Sheet

Certificate of annual income of the applicant

Certificate of family income (parents’ income if single or income of the spouse if married)

Employment certificate that demonstrates two years of full-time work experience

Take Notice that every income certificate must show annual income in applicants’local currencies and in US dollars, and be written in English language with a signature or a stamp. You are also required to only submit authorized certificates issued by public agencies.
