Applications are now open for the Capacity-Building on Gender Equality and Women’s Participation 2026, an international training programme that will take place in Kunming, China, from 7–9 September 2026. The initiative is organized by the Asia–Europe Foundation (ASEF) and is designed for professionals, policymakers, researchers, and civil society leaders committed to advancing gender equality and inclusive development.

Participants will gain practical knowledge, build international networks, and explore strategies for increasing women’s participation in governance and decision-making. Selected participants will also receive travel and accommodation support.

About the Programme

Gender equality remains one of the key drivers of sustainable development. This intensive three-day programme aims to strengthen the capacity of professionals working across Asia and Europe by providing practical tools and policy insights that promote women’s leadership and participation.

Around 20 participants from eligible ASEM partner countries will be selected to join the in-person training, where they will exchange ideas, learn from experts, and develop strategies that can be implemented within their own organizations and communities.

Programme Objectives

Participants will develop a deeper understanding of:

Structural and social barriers limiting women’s participation

Gender analysis and gender-sensitive policymaking

Gender-responsive budgeting and monitoring methods

Use of gender-disaggregated data for decision-making

Strategies for mainstreaming gender equality in institutions

Cross-regional cooperation between Asia and Europe

The programme also encourages participants to create practical action plans that can be applied in their professional environments.

Who Can Apply?

The programme welcomes applicants from ASEM partner countries who are actively involved in gender equality or sustainable development initiatives.

Eligible applicants include:

Government officials

Representatives from women’s commissions and ministries

Civil society and non-governmental organizations

Relevant private sector organizations working on inclusion and empowerment

Basic Requirements

Applicants should:

Be citizens of eligible ASEM partner countries

Have working proficiency in English

Be in a position to influence policy, programmes, advocacy, research, or institutional practice

Demonstrate commitment to advancing gender equality

Note: Consultants and students without relevant professional experience are not eligible to apply.

Training Format

The programme uses an interactive learning approach that includes:

The focus is on providing participants with skills they can immediately apply in their organizations and communities.

Financial Support

Selected participants will receive substantial support, including:

Economy-class round-trip airfare reimbursement (up to the approved limit)

Four nights of accommodation
